How to use
our Livella menstrual cup
Preparation
First of all, wash your hands and clean the menstrual cup thoroughly using hot boiling water.
Folding
Fold the cup to a C-shape, find a comfortable position and insert it carefully into your vagina, rim up and pointing towards your tailbone.
Insertion
Position the cup in the lower part of your vagina – you know it’s in far enough if you can’t see the stem anymore, but are still able to grab it easily.
To simplify its insertion, apply a small amount of water or water-based lubricant on the rim of your menstrual cup. Once it’s in the right position, your menstrual cup will unfold. Now, you shouldn’t feel it anymore. In case the cup unfolds before it’s in the right position, carefully push it a little higher until you can’t see the stem anymore. If the stem is too long, remove the menstrual cup and trim the stem using a pair of scissors. Be careful not to cut off the entire stem.
Cleaning
Wash your hands thoroughly before removing the cup. Return to your comfortable position.
Now try to locate the stem of the menstrual cup with your fingers. Once you have located the cup and found the grooves that mark its base, pinch it slightly with your fingers. This will release the suction. Pull out the menstrual cup without letting go of its base. Do not pull on the stem to remove it. After removing your menstrual cup, empty it into the toilet and clean it.

FAQ
Everything you need to know about our menstrual cups.
The volume of the menstrual cup provides up to 12 hours of leak protection depending on your menstrual flow and the chosen cup size (S or L). However, it might be necessary to empty your cup more often than that.
Yes, it is possible to wear the menstrual cup while swimming. The cup sits comfortably and securely beneath the cervix and doesn’t move or slide down during sports such as swimming, yoga or horse riding. A huge advantage over tampons is that you don’t have to worry about hiding the annoying string. The menstrual cup is completely invisible.
If the cup is cleaned properly and regularly, it will last up to 10 years. This not only protects the environment, but also saves you a lot of money.
The length of the stem is 2.21 cm for size S and 2.43 cm for size L. The measures are based on average sizes and will in no case be too short. However, should the stem be a little too long (so that you notice it while wearing your cup), you can easily shorten it until it has the perfect length for you.
We recommend cleaning the menstrual cup thoroughly before and after each period, ideally by boiling it. This way, you can be sure that your cup is perfectly clean.
Yes, you can use the Livella menstrual cup with a coil or GyneFix. The menstrual cup is held in place by slight suction. However, this suction is not strong enough to dislodge a coil or GyneFix. Before removing the cup, the suction is released by pinching its base.
The dust-like film on your menstrual cup is a result of boiling it with water that has a high mineral content (i.e. limescale). In order to prevent this, you can boil your cup with still mineral water.
Yes, medical silicone is safe for use in the microwave. Simply fill a microwaveable bowl with water and immerse the cup in the water. Place the bowl with the menstrual cup in the microwave and run at 800 watts for 5 minutes.
During your period and after emptying, the menstrual cup can be cleaned under running water. After the end of the period, however, we recommend thorough cleaning through boiling.
The Livella menstrual cup was developed in collaboration with medical professionals. As a result, the innovative cup design adapts perfectly to the female anatomy. Also, it is manufactured under very strict hygienic conditions and is made of 100% medical silicone. The material is SGS and FDA certified. The Livella menstrual cup is a premium hygiene product which fulfils the highest standards and does not pose a danger to your health.
We recommend that you empty the cup before going to bed. This way, you can increase the available cup capacity.
Similar to inserting a tampon, inserting a menstrual cup can damage the hymen or cause it to tear. However, this depends on how elastic the individual hymen is. In most cases, you won’t even notice and there will be no negative repercussions on your health. You won’t lose your virginity until you have sex for the first time.
Yes. In this case, it’s best to choose the larger cup size L. Thanks to its slightly larger diameter, it sits more securely even if you have weak pelvic floor muscles. It’s also possible to increase the suction a little bit. To do this, insert the cup a little deeper than usual, wait until it unfolds completely and then pull it back down a little (without releasing the suction).
