External influences can slow down the natural wound healing process of the damaged skin around the nipple. The anatomical shape of Livella silver cones ideally covers and protects irritated nipples. . This means that there is always some breast milk on the nipples, which promotes the moist wound healing process. This optimal combination of protection and moist environment makes breastfeeding a pleasant experience again in a very short time. Thanks to this, breastfeeding will soon again be an all-around pleasant experience and you will be able to enjoy a loving nursing period with your baby.
The glands sitting around the nipples produce a special secretion which stimulates the baby’s natural rooting reflex. Its scent resembles the scent of amniotic fluid and helps the baby find the mother’s nipples and latch on properly. Ointments and similar products can alter the characteristic scent of this fluid. And even after thorough cleaning, these creams may leave a residue on the skin around the nipple which your baby could consume during the breastfeeding session. When using Livella Silver Nursing Cups, you can breastfeed your baby anytime without having to clean your nipples first. The natural scent of your breast remains the same.

I am a mum of two and after breastfeeding was really difficult with my son, I was really scared of it. The breast immediately became inflamed and after I used the silver nursing cups everything was great after 2 days and I have been able to breastfeed without pain ever since.
While I was still in hospital, I started using the silver nursing cups and have remained completely symptom-free Up to now, my son Emil is now 5 weeks old, I have not had any inflammation or anything like that in the nipples. I would have liked to have known them when I had my daughter three years ago, because that would have made a lot of things easier and saved me some pain.
The breastfeeding relationship between me and my baby was put to the test in the beginning. But with the silver nursing cups came relief and we made it through this rough patch. Now breastfeeding is a very harmonious experience.
The early days of breastfeeding caused me insane pain with both children, I even had anxiety before the next breastfeeds! I am happy to have discovered the Livella Silver Nursing Cups. Now, breastfeeding gives me the feeling of absolute love and affection. It is something very special to be so close to your baby and I wish every mum who wants to, that she can experience this feeling and has the chance to have a great breastfeeding relationship with her baby!
Wash your nipples with lukewarm water before each feeding session to remove any traces of dried breast milk.
After the breastfeeding session, place the silver nursing cups the silver cups directly on your nipples. The healing process can by putting a few drops of breast milk into each cup.
It is not necessary nor recommended to use additional care products on your nipples.
You can wear the silver cups comfortably under your nursing bra and nursing pads. It is best to wear the silver cups all day and only take them off for breast feeding.
Continue wearing the cups after your nipples have healed to prevent any new skin damage.
We recommend rinsing the silver nursing cups under warm waterafter each application. Once in a while, they can also be cleaned with a mixture of sodium bicarbonate and water.
The size of the Silver Nursing Cups is suitable for all breast and nipple sizes. It is important that the affected (sore) area and the nipples are protected. The choice of our size of 4.5 cm diameter and 1.1 cm height is based on international studies and the experience of previous users of Livella Silver Nursing Cups.
We generally recommend removing dried breast milk from the nipples before breastfeeding. However, additional washing because of wearing the silver cups is not necessary, as the item is made of pure silver according to the highest standards and no product residue can adhere to the nipple.
The nursing cups are perfectly adapted to the size of the nipple, which guarantees a comfortable fit (diameter 4.5cm, maximum height 1.2cm). However, they are not made for collecting excess milk. We recommend that you put nursing pads in your bra to absorb additional breast milk.
The silver cups serve to protect the nipples and additionally support wound healing. They protect the nipples from drying out and rubbing against clothing and also prevent them from buckling. However, they do not have any holes to be used during breast feeding.
The material we use is 100% pure 999 silver. Silver is a natural product and can tarnish after a while if it is not stored and cleaned properly. This is a natural process that has no influence on the efficacy of the product but rather proves the high purity of the material. Nevertheless, the discolouration can be counteracted and the aesthetics of the product can be preserved by following our care and storage instructions.

The Silver Nursing Cups can be boiled in water for up to 20 minutes without any problems. To avoid scratches on the Silver Nursing Cups, the cups should be boiled separately, because they could collide during cooking. Depending on the lime in the water, a white cold layer can form on the silver, which can be easily wiped off with a soft cloth and clear water.
The Silver Nursing Cups can also be cleaned with wound disinfectant. They should be washed off thoroughly after applying the disinfectant so that no remains of the disinfectant stick to the cups, which could later be eaten by the newborn.
No copper or other metal is used as a substrate. The Livella silver cups are made of 100% 999 silver, also known as solid silver, and thus have the highest possible purity grade. We have developed a special process that makes it possible to completely dispense with carrier materials. This makes us the only manufacturer in Europe. Our TÜV certified silver (raw material) is produced in Germany.
The solid 999 silver used to make the Silver Nursing Cups is a sustainable and high quality material. With proper care and application, the cups can be used throughout the entire nursing period. Natural discoloration may occur after some time, which has no influence on the natural healing effect.
The Silver Nursing Cups have an anatomical shape that is perfectly adapted to the breast. With a height of 1.2 cm and a weight of 5 grams per cup, they are hardly noticeable under a nursing bra.
The Silver Nursing Cups can be used for flat, hollow and inverted nipples as well as normal nipples of all sizes. The cups protect not only the nipples but also the areola from unpleasant friction or sticking to clothing.
In case of an existing fungal, viral or bacterial infection, you should consult with a doctor first before starting to use the Silver Nursing Cups.
In principle, we recommend that you only remove the silver cups for breastfeeding and wear it throughout the entire breastfeeding period to prevent possible discomfort. As soon as breastfeeding becomes routine and there are no more complaints, the use of silver cups is not necessary anymore. Should problems arise again, the silver cups can be reused quickly and easily.
If wearing the Silver Nursing Cups becomes uncomfortable, you can try the following:
No, the silver cups do not shape the nipples. They are applied to the nipples before and after breastfeeding to protect them from external influences. A few drops of breast milk in the silver cups can promote moist wound healing.
The silver cups are no cause of breast engorgement.
Milk engorgement or blocked milk ducts can have several causes. A common reason is that the milk ducts are not emptied enough. If new breast milk is now regularly produced in the mammary glands, congestion can develop and the milk can no longer flow out properly. The affected areas harden and become painful. If the silver cups are lying on the affected area, the application will be uncomfortable and the milk stasis should be released first. Other reasons for milk stasis can also be external factors, such as too much stress or wearing a bra that is too tight.
A fungal infection is caused by bacteria in the baby’s mouth and usually occurs when the baby’s own immune system is already weakened. Fungal infections cannot originate from the silver cups. Appropriate treatment should be discussed with a doctor or midwife.
Moist wound healing is recommended by many doctors. Studies show that the wound can heal up to 50% faster and better this way*. In addition, mother milk has healing properties that have an additional positive effect on wound healing.

The silver cups can also be stored in the refrigerator during breaks. When applied, they have a pleasant cooling effect. The silver cups should not be stored in the freezer. Direct application may otherwise cause freezer burn on the skin.
The silver cups can deform under strong punctual pressure from the outside. By applying pressure with the fingers, the silver cups can be returned to their original shape. Even if deformations remain, it has no influence on the effect.
The cups should cover the irritated and sore areas in order to protect them from external influences (like chafing or sticking to clothing) and to allow small amounts of breast milk to accumulate around the sore skin which promotes moist wound healing.
The pure 999 silver of our Livella silver cups are tested and confirmed by accredited institutes (e.g. TUV SUD Germany) We source the material from a German supplier. You can find a certificate in the product image gallery. A common misconception is that “real” silver must be stamped with purity grade (e.g. 825, 925 or 999). There is no stamp requirement in Europe. Only test certificates confirm the real purity of the material. Stamps can be placed randomly on the material.
A common misconception is that “real” silver must be stamped with purity grade (e.g. 800, 835, 925 or 999). There is no stamp requirement in Europe. Only test certificates confirm the real purity of the material. Stamps can be placed randomly on the material. We do not use a stamp, as we do not want to damage the silver surface of the silver cups. This way we prevent unevenness caused by the stamp, unpleasant friction in already very sensitive areas and clothes getting caught on the silver cups.
The number indicates the purity or silver content of the material. For example, 999 silver is the highest possible purity of silver and indicates that the silver used has a minimum purity of 99.9% silver. The gradations are 925, 835, 800 and a simple silver plating. With 835 silver, the material is only 83.5% silver. The remaining components (16.5%) consist of foreign metals such as copper, iron, zinc etc. In the case of silver coatings, a foreign material (mostly copper) is coated with an extremely thin layer of silver. It has no purity.
The Livella silver cups are produced regionally in our manufactory in Schleswig-Holstein (Germany). The production is carried out according to the highest quality requirements and standards. Each silver cup is checked before dispatch according to the 4-eyes principle and only leaves our production if all requirements are met.
